Renaming of OreCzml

Hello dear community.

It has been one year now that OreCzml has released its first version. A lot of changes were made this year in preparation of the V1.1, which wiil be released soon.

The name of OreCzml was first chosen and inspired by Orekit and the Czml (Cesium Language) that is used to generate 3D scenes with Cesium. But it is not very easy to say, nor aesthetic.

Hence, I want to suggest a new name : Orium. It would make more sense (using Orekit and Cesium), and in my opinion it is more aesthetic and easier to say.

This modification will imply changes in the name of the forum section, but also in the code.

Let me know if you think another name would fit better.

Regards.

Julien.

The legally-distinct “Oriuum” seems to be free :face_with_peeking_eye:

As @JTabeaud mentionned, would it pose a problem if it is renamed Oriuum ?

Sad that ‘Orium’ is already taken

Hey there,

What about Oresium then?

Cheers,
Romain

“Oriuum” is too similar to “Orium,” which could be considered “trademark squatting.” It’s not worth playing with fire.

Okay.

@Serrof I really like Oresium. And it’s seems like it’s not already taken.

I will open an issue then.

Thank you all !

Feel free to suggest other names

IMHO, changing the name of a project is not such a good idea:

  • it’s a lot of work: renaming classes, documentation, web sites

  • people will be lost (old reference to an no-more existing project)
  • even web crawler will apply a bad notation when URL are not maintained

The change of the project’s name should be done only when a significant incident occurs, like a trademark issue.

I overall agree with @gbonnefille.
