FYI I started a discussion about options to speed up the STM a while ago. The slower forces to include are definitely drag and high-order geopotential. I just implemented the dedicated atmospheric model for drag partials. For the geopotential, another idea (beyond the different order for the derivatives) that I’ve seen in the literature would be an adaptive order based on the position.
